Jeff’s F Movie

Posted by dogtrax on April 22, 2007

Jeff has just finished and posted his movie based on the Letter F and it rocks! (reference to the topic of his movie). He has also posted it to our Jumpcut site and Bonnie and I are hoping to get some more of the ABC movies into the mix in the next week or so.

Meanwhile, feel free to leave a comment here for Jeff — teacher by day, rock and roller by night.

I liked the enthusiasm and the balance between your lives, and how you (like me) need some creative outlets beyond the classroom.
Thanks for sharing your story, Jeff.

Here’s the script (reflection to follow; right now I’m off to the beach):

F is for full-on nonstop rock ‘n’ roll action.
I often describe myself as “teacher by day, rock star by night.” While I’ll never be a famous musician, it is still vitally important to me to have at least one creative outlet. Currently, I play in a funk/country/jam band, a hip-hop/R&B band, and an Irish band. But starting in middle school, I’ve played almost every kind of music that exists in the northeastern US–orchestral music, marching band music, jazz of all styles (from big band to free), funk, soul, country, blues, R&B, punk, metal, soft rock, Irish, African, etc. I simply can’t imagine not getting together with other like-minded souls at an appointed time to rehearse, and then presenting what we’ve worked out to others.

    Jeff,
Welcome. You have jumped into the ABC Movie soup and now we have a party. The three of us seem to share this need to create in the musical area. I loved moving through your worlds of teacher by day and rocker by night. In a few hours I will be perfomring in the “comfort” my livingroom, adding in an audience, that’s unfamiliar territory for me. It was so cool watching your piece this morning, just before I picked up my guitar. Both you and Kevin play your music in collaboration. I too, will be playing one piece with my teacher but for the rest I’m solo and maybe I should think about a group….
Thanks so much for sharing you passion.

Thanks, Bonnie, for the kind words.

I’ve been thinking about recently about this little movie I’ve unleashed. Mostly that when I agreed to take on this challenge, I doubted it would actually get done. And that I was really at a loss to figure out what my movie would be about–the only “F” word I could think of was the “F word.”

But then when I started writing the text and scouring my hard drive for pictures and video of me rocking out, something happened–I wanted nothing more than to make the best short video I could. And I thought a little about how my students were introduced to wikis about a month ago, and how skeptical they were at first, and now they keep tweaking their class site whenever they can.

The Q movie is coming, too, but it might be a little late–I need to get hold of some old photos that my parents have.

    Jeff,

Great way to share your love of music. Very eclectic and diverse. Thanks.
